The Moons A Balloon Choir

In  June 2009 Kavisha was asked by Mental Illness Fellowship Victoria to start a new choir for carers of those with mentall Illness as part of their Respite Programme.Kavisha named " the Moon's a Balloon". After a 10 week programme , and a choir of 10 people, they did their first concert to an enthusiastic crowd at Clifton Hill's Athol Gill Centre.

The choir was so much fun that the carers decided it should go on.

The choir now has opened its membership to also include those with mentall illness and family and friends and members of the general public. The choir has performed at the Annual Woodcock lecture and Open Mind Fiesta and is about to embark on  a  6 week songwriting project with  fabulous songwiter Alicia Egan of the Egan Twins while Kavisha visits China july-Aug this yesr.

The choir today has grown and is 25 voice strong and consists of men amd women from all over Melbourne who are comitted to healing through song and inviting awareness about mental illness and recovery. The songs and exercises are held in an atmosphere that is fun and inclusive .

E.E. Cummings THE MOON'S A BALLOON by ee cummings

“who knows if the moon's
a balloon,coming out of a keen city
in the sky--filled with pretty people?
( and if you and I should
get into it,if they
should take me and take you into their balloon,
why then
we'd go up higher with all the pretty people

than houses and steeples and clouds:
go sailing
away and away sailing into a keen
city which nobody's ever visited,where

always
it's
Spring)and everyone's
in love and flowers pick themselves”
